Support Your Local Bookstore and Buy Kobo eBooks

Put a dent in Amazon’s plot to take over almost every facet of the publishing world, especially its goal to monopolize the eBook market.

INDIEBOUNDYou can support your favorite bookstore and buy those downloadable titles to your heart’s content. If you don’t already own an e-reader device, allow me to introduce you to Kobo through IndieBound.

Independent bookstores have partnered with Kobo to bring consumers the best in eReading. It’s easy to get started. Kobo offers more than 4 million eBook titles— including best sellers, hidden gems, Indie Next List great reads, and other recommendations— that can be downloaded instantly over WiFi or through the Kobo app, making it the ultimate in convenience. eReader device availability varies by store. Contact individual store for details about its participation in Kobo eReading.

How to support your independent bookstore by purchasing eBooks through Kobo:

  • Buy a Kobo device from a participating independent bookstore. Once you create your account on the Kobo device from your local bookstore, your bookstore will share in the proceeds of each eBook you purchase. (Not all participating stores have devices for sale, so please check with your local indie.)
  • Create a Kobo account after following a special link on your bookstore’s website. If you already have a preferred eReading device, just visit the website of any participating store and look for the Kobo logo. Nearby, you’ll find a link to create your account with Kobo. Be sure to follow this link to ensure that your account is associated correctly with your store of choice.
  • Read all the latest titles on the free Kobo app. Download the Kobo app and begin reading.

What’s really neat is that you can participate in the Kobo/IndieBound program even if you already have an e-reader device. The above web address provides a list of all the U.S. IndieBound stores that are affiliated with Kobo.

If you don’t have an e-reading device, why not seriously consider the Kobo?

My reason for endorsing the Kobo affiliation with IndieBound is simple: once you’ve signed up with a participating IndieBound store, no matter which device you use, Kindle, Nook, or Kobo, the title you download from Kobo, will benefit the independent bookstore that you signed up with.

It’s taken my pea brain a bit of time to be clear on this, but it is a win-win for all. You get your e-Book, and your local store gets part of the sale. You don’t have to go to the store. Just find out if the store nearest you is participating in the program, sign up through them, and then click that Kobo button.

Bookin’ with Sunny is also affiliated with IndieBound and Kobo. If, after reading one of our reviews, you download a book from the links on our website, along with the bookstore, we will get a little something back, too. Thank you!

It’s summer and a great time to make traveling easier with the use of your e-reader device. Now that you know what the Kobo button represents, we at Bookin’ with Sunny hope you will become part of a really terrific book program that can put a dent in Amazon’s efforts to control what and how you buy those e-Book titles.
