Plant a Kiss

PLANT A KISS

Plant a Kiss, perfect for Valentine’s Day, author Amy Krouse Rosenthal and illustrator Peter H. Reynolds have created a picture book that begins and ends with a kiss. It is a story about a little girl who plants her kiss in the ground and waits for it to blossom into a glittering mist of sparkles and pink and yellow swirls. Little Miss then decides, very generously for a child, to share it with everyone she encounters despite her friends’ objections that it is “far too rare” to share with the world.

An important lesson to share with young children, Plant a Kiss illustrates the joy of giving to others the magic, kindness, and love carried within each of us. The story encourages children to share their own inner gifts with everyone, “everywhere,” as the reader follows Little Miss traveling to people of different nationalities and climates giving each person she meets a bit of her kiss.

Rosenthal, the author of many bestselling books for both children and adults such as Duck! Rabbit! and It’s Not Fair, tells this story with barely a sentence or just a rhyming word on each page. Reynolds, the illustrator and also an award-winning author of works like The Dot, and The North Star, paints beautiful pictures with very different looking children that are each affected in a positive way by Little Miss’ kiss. The kiss itself, once in full bloom, can actually be felt by the readers. There may even be a speck or two of its glitter left on their fingers as they follow Little Miss along on her journey.

Plant A Kiss is more than a picture book, it’s an invitation to children to share themselves and their love with others. Who knows how many lives they can touch from “one little kiss…”  –  Aubrey Siino
