I’m happy to welcome Dave Holt as a reviewer this month. Dave read and reviewed Lucille Lang Day’s latest book. Married at Fourteen and published by Heyday Books https://heydaybooks.com/. It’s great fun to have your writer friends volunteer to contribute to the site. Dave is well-known in the S.F. Bay Area, as poet, essayist and musician. Dave and his wife Chappell’s music can be found at reverbnation. I encourage you to stop by and listen. Dave and Chappell are treasures and their music has a unique sound all their own. “All their own” can be taken literally because Dave performs not only as a musician, but also as composer and lyricist. Their music is a crossroads where jazz, blues, folk & gospel meet.
Dave earned two Creative Writing degrees (B.A. ‘93, and M.A. 1995) at San Francisco State University. He is published in several journals, won a Thomas Merton Foundation’s Poetry of the Sacred prize, and was featured in the 9th Annual Berkeley Poetry Festival (2011).
Born in Toronto, Canada, he is descended from a great storytelling family, the Debassiges of West Bay First Nation, notable on Manitoulin Island (Ontario) for preserving the history of their Ojibway leaders for over 300 years. His book, Voyages to Ancestral Islands, tells his story.
